Why Viscose?

Viscose, also known as rayon, is a fabric loved for its beautiful drape, soft feel, and breathable comfort. Originally developed as an affordable alternative to silk, viscose is made from natural cellulose fibres—most commonly derived from wood pulp—which are processed into a smooth, lightweight textile.

One of the reasons viscose is so popular in blouses and dresses is its fluid drape. The fabric falls softly against the body, creating elegant movement and flattering silhouettes. It also has a silky, smooth texture, making it comfortable to wear while still looking polished and refined.

Viscose is also known for its excellent colour absorption, which allows fabrics to hold rich colours and detailed prints beautifully. This makes it a favourite choice for fashion pieces where colour and pattern play an important role.

Because it is derived from natural fibres, viscose is breathable and comfortable, particularly in warmer weather. However, the fibres can be more delicate than many synthetic fabrics, which means viscose garments benefit from gentle care.

How to look after your Viscose Garments?

Viscose, also known as rayon, is a semi-synthetic fabric made from natural fibres like wood pulp. While it has a luxurious feel and drapes beautifully, it requires special care to maintain its appearance and durability. Like many natural fibres and semi-synthetic fabrics, viscose can be prone to shrinkage when exposed to heat and agitation.

General care instructions:

Check the Care Label: Always check the care label on your viscose garment for specific instructions. Different blends and finishes may have unique care requirements.

Hand Washing: Hand washing is often the best method for cleaning viscose garments. Use lukewarm water and a mild detergent. Gently agitate the water to wash the garment, then rinse thoroughly to remove all soap residue.

Machine Washing: If machine washing is preferred, use a gentle cycle with cold water and a mild detergent specifically formulated for delicate fabrics. Place the garment in a mesh laundry bag to protect it from abrasion.

Avoid Agitation: Whether hand or machine washing, avoid excessive wringing or agitation, as this can cause the fabric to stretch or become misshapen.

Drying: To dry viscose garments, gently squeeze out excess water without wringing and reshape them to their original size. Lay them flat on a clean, dry towel to air dry away from direct sunlight and heat sources. Avoid hanging viscose garments to dry, as they may stretch out of shape.

Steam Ironing: Viscose garments can wrinkle easily, so it's essential to iron them carefully. Use a low to medium heat setting on your iron and iron the garment inside out to prevent shine or damage to the fabric. Alternatively, use a handheld steamer to remove wrinkles without direct contact with the fabric.

Storage: Store your clean and completely dry viscose garments folded in a cool, dry place. Hanging them for long periods can cause them to stretch out of shape.

Avoid Bleach and Harsh Chemicals: Avoid using bleach or harsh chemicals on viscose garments, as they can weaken the fibres and cause them to deteriorate over time.

Handle with Care: Viscose fabric is delicate, so handle your garments with care to prevent snagging or pulling.

By following these care instructions, you can help ensure that your viscose garments remain soft, vibrant, and in excellent condition for years to come.
